Thinking about getting one. I’m still going to have a sand car but have a few friends that are all sxs and following them is not that fun in a sand car. They look good, no belt is a big plus. Anyone have any experience or friends with one?

There are 5 in our group. None of them have any issues thus far. One has an E-85 tune and two others have the EVO 91 tune on them. The other 2 are stock. They all have aftermarket springs (2 are smart shock models, 1 is the next level down, and 2 are base models with QS3 shocks) . I have driven my friend's stock one with the springs and smart shocks.

They are really fast from 20-70mph. The smart shock suspension worked really well, but not as good as the Polaris live value. Being able to manually down shift or up shift, if you want, makes for a different SXS driving experience. I left it in auto mode and would hit the down shift paddle going into turns. It was as close to driving a rail as you can get in a SXS.

All the cars in the 500-1000+ mile range.

The car feels very stable and it soaks up the big hits.

I did drive my friend's Pro R with live value and some Bikeman stuff that gets it to 300hp. The live value with the "oh shit" button was awesome. The instant throttle response was amazing and the Pro R handles really well and soaks up the big stuff. Pro R belts hold up.

I was pretty sure my next ride would be a Maverick R, but after driving the Pro R it has me thinking.

Is the cage on the new Maverick R any better than the other SxS cages or does it need to be replaced with an after market cage?

Yeah I have been eyeing the pro r too.

I am one of the 5, but mine has almost 2000 miles on it. I have never driven a Pro R, but have ridden in one that was driven hard. The Mav R feels more like my rail in every way over the Pro R except in power. You can make more power in the 2L by adding a turbo by far. That said, I am really enjoying banging gears in the Mav R. As Shark says, I leave it in auto, but manually down shift when coming into corners. EVO is working on a sequential shifter that replaces the paddles. Pretty sure I am going to do it when it comes out. I did a TMW cage as the cage does not look all that great to me. Stock Pro R cage looks better strength wise, but I would still probably replace it. I have the EVO 91 tune and trans tune.

I have a Pro R and have now followed quite a few Mav Rs (2 seat and 4 seat) in the dunes. The Dynamix equipped Pro R suspension works considerably better out of the box than any of the Can Am offerings. I've yet to see a Mav R that doesn't have the ass end bouncing over shit. I'm sure this can be addressed through tuning but stock for stock, the Pro R does much better in this regard. I've been on some pretty good rips through the dunes and haven't seen anything the Mav R does better, yet. The Dynamix button ("oh shit button") is something Can Am should have implemented.

Edit: none of this is say the Mav R is remotely bad, just that from my observations, the Pro R has a considerable advantage out of the box.

My buddy has one and it is soooo nice!
But she's got GIRTH! Named Big Booty Judy!
LOL

No experience with the 2 seater but I can tell you all about the 4 seat MavR. Not shitting on the ProR at all, but I'm very content with my purchase. 1 handed night ride from pad 2 to the washes and back... no problem, hitting Olds Highway at 60mph through those man-eating whoops, no problem, throwing a 144" wheelbase around like it's a 450 quad, no problem... the fuel consumption seems to be on par with the 2 liter ProR and the wife's V8, but it's all miles of smiles

No problem throwing a shit ton of sand either! Thank the dune gods for helmet air systems.

Edit: and welcome to the shit mileage club lol

Those 4 seaters are surprisingly nimble. I think the 4 seat Mav R is the best looking of the 4 seat SXSs.

It has some really cool lines. The interior is a huge step up from the Polaris. It resembles a modern car in there.

If I did not drive my friend's Pro R I would never of considered it for my next ride. The live valve and the way that suspension works has me thinking otherwise. Plus the tune, cam and exhaust from Bikeman gives it a ton of hp and torque.

The Mav R with some springs helps. I think for the Mav R getting the XRS model with the fully adjustable shocks is the way to go over the smart shocks. Although the Shock Therapy firmanator giving it the "oh shit" button might not be a bad route.

A couple guys in our group went from Rails to the MavR and are very satisfied. I got to drive one and was very impressed but I'm still a Rail Guy and building a new car as we speak....in a perfect world I would own both...maybe someday!!
For the Dunes I think the MavR is the way to go, now if you plan to do more desert then I see how the ProR might be a better choice...honestly, I think you can't lose with either choice...both seem great!

I see this posted a lot (MavR being the way to go in the dunes); what makes you say that? I was leaning heavily that way before making my purchase. The DCT was a major consideration.

From what I've seen and talked to others, the MavR likes to be driven hard like a race car, lower center gravity and wider stance is huge in the dunes....not needed as much in the desert in my opinion.
