About 2 days ago I am looking at CL and I see an add for a "Stinger."  I look at the add and it is a Jeep bumper thingy,  sort of a grill guard, w/a big loop, tilted out, that goes up real high, at least to the top of the hood.  It was sort of like the old fashioned Pre-Runner type bumpers.

Anyways, I had not heard that term before...at least in the manner.   Did that guy make it up?

No; they are quite common and range from classy to ridiculous.

Not sure that I see that I "get it."

We used to have a thread dedicated to this device in the burned up site.

There were some outrageous "Stingers".

supper common item for off-road

first idea was you made the stinger the same angle as your approach, so when you got a wall you knew you could/couldn't get wheels on it

2nd idea was in a down hill crash scenario, the stinger would again be the first impact

then it went off the rails for all sorts of uses, combo's, ideas, style to no-style points
