Just went on a ride and during the ride came over an unexpected lip and was in 3rd gear. Rear tires did come off the forums.  Now trans only goes into first/second and reverse. Does not matter if car is on off or clutch in/out. Any ideas?

Had the same exact thing happen a couple seasons ago and I just needed to adjust the shifter

Time to buy a new car 😛

At this point I might have to. Not sure if I or the car is cursed. I have yet to have a successful trip where nothing happened on the car and this is the second season with it already!

Did you get it figured out???
Still working on it as we speak. Looks like the hockey stick end is stuck on one of the forks and is also worn out. I drained all the fluid and it was super clean with no metal.

maybe @Sean@Weddle can chime in on the photo. FYI it’s super zoomed in

the forks have a set screw that holds them to the individual shift rails. it is possible that has come loose or shifted

Also, car currently has the shifter in the 3rd gear position but rolls like it is in neutral. The only movement the shifter has is between neutral and 3rd and rolls regardless of position.

The shift rail for 3rd/4th is partially engaged towards 3rd gear in the picture. This really shouldn't let you shift into 1st/2nd as there should be "interlocks" between the shift rails that will prevent one shift rail from moving it the adjacent rail is engaged in any gear.

If you can pull the 3/4 shift rail back into place and feel the detent position in each gear, then you might be ok. Hook your shifter back up and shift through all the gears and pay attention to the detents, making sure it engages in each gear.

If that shift rail does not want to move back, then you might have a bigger problem requiring full service of the trans.

Update: Trans has been dropped off with Dave Folts. Dave himself confirmed the 3/4 shift rod is indeed stuck and requires it to be torn down and inspected.
