2D reverse gear going out or clutch going out?

Alright when backing my car out of the trailer it started to act funny. With clutch pushed in and let off of the gas it slamed to a stop. My first instinct told me shit I just busted reverse. But for the heck of it I kept it in reverse and finished backing out into the street and it did it again. But there was no weird sounds (grinding or gear missing teeth noises). So what say the experts here. Either way motor has to come out before Thanksgiving but will I be doing a clutch or more damage.
