So I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that I would like to tow behind my RV and also make it a nice desert car.

I know most want the Square one but this is what I have.

What suspension would you recommend for Ocotillo Wells.  Would be just moderate stuff but would like to hit the whoops at around 40 mph.

is this even possible with this Jeep?

These are great jeeps. I had a 2000 and loved it. Look at iron rock off road’s kits, look into converting driveshafts from cv to u joint.

anything is possible with the right amount of $$$. Lack of frame will make it so its never a trophy truck.  But a good set of shocks (bypass) it will go good in the desert

there was a wj build thread on here, cant remember who it was

Thanks. Figured since I already had it why not. I understand there are limits to everything but didn’t want to throw some money into this and it not be worth it. Will be looking into the stuff you mentioned. Thanks!

i think the thread was by tj06, his wj was the bomb

mine was a little less extreme but I tow it to KOH every year

Had to re-read that....I thought you said Jeep and nice desert car in the same sentence.....you did.... oh my......

Time and Money.....

Have realistic expectations....It will never be a razor or a can am....they can be made to work good for jeeps....that's good for a Jeep.

The Genright guys have an LJ and now JKs and JLs that will run with the king of hammers cars...but how much you want to spend.

Buckle up it's gonna be a long bumpy journey.

That’s what TJ went with as a base. IRO has a long arm setup, but front only. Rear is stock length.

From there, either Fox reservoirs (Factory, not the cheaper line) shocks or bypasses if you’re willing.

Otherwise, a standard lift kit of your choice and a set of hood shocks will go a long way, just not gonna hit 40 in the whoops without long arms

It can be done but it’s a little on the pricey side. As said before, a good lift kit with good shocks is key. Also, if you don’t plan on cutting up the body, get the proper size tires for the kit with the right offset wheel. It’s amazing what these Jeeps can do honestly. Yes it’s no RZR when it comes to speed or crawling, but you can do some extreme stuff! Good luck

Thanks everyone! Just need to sell my buggy and will use that money for this project.

Right... of course we did triple bypasses, bumps etc. on mine.  This vid was meant to show the fender cut, but sort of shows some of the susp:

A good bit has changed since then (bumpers, GenIII 426cui Hemi, big brakes, different wheels/tires, stereo, etc.) but that will give you an idea.
