Hey Guys Ive, been noticing a litlle squeak and rubber binding kinda noise at slow speeds and can also hear up through 40 mph.

I jacked up the front driver side and I can barely spin the wheel. and tire. Im talkin its really difficult to spin.  I loosened the lugs and the wheel spins as it should.

What the hell is going on any comments would be appricaited.

Could be lots of things, wheel bearings try to rock tire on hub by grabbing top/bottom and shaking. If it moves bearings toast.

Could be bad seal/bearing at axle or bad u joint between axle/hub.

caliper could be sticking. Change your fluid and fyi ford power steering on these trucks uses trans fluid not steering fluid. Steering fluid will eff your pump

those are my guesses short of the simple back spacing and tire rubbing on spindle. No rub mark on inside of tire or wheel?

There is no play rocking the tire back and forth. I will look closely at the u joints.

Its definitely not the tire rubbing on the spindle as when I had the tires put on everything was fine and the other side seams fine also.

Like I mentioned what is super strange is that if you loosen the lug nuts slightly the wheel spins as it should....tighten them up and it doesn't want to spin

Could it be a brake pad dragging?

When you loosen the lugs the rotor has a chance to move slightly and let it spin? Try by taking wheel off and the bolt the rotor up tight.

Hmmmm I thought about the brake pad dragging but that could be it. I would need to maybe pull the caliper and see why the pads are binding.

see edit Maybe the caliper is not moving freely to stay centered.

4wd? How many miles?  Is it clean or has it been used hard? Had to do the bearings on my grandsons 1999....one failed the other was bad....Hub assy....not hard. Looked like crap when we got it apart.

you should be able to drive it and then lazer temp it to see how close it is to the other side.

is it not pulling to that side?

Seems like that can be a frozen brake caliper, caliper sliding pins or bad wheel bearing. A buddy of mine had a similar issue and he ended up having to replace the sliding caliper pins that were worn due to no grease.

Yes 4wd and I have 185k. Normal everyday driving nothing crazy.

Im going to go take it all apart right now. I will get back with what I find.

Not to hard

if you keep your truck you will get really good at it lol

The only thing that sort of frustrating about it is the snap ring on the inside (it is pretty deep)if you make sure that you have the correct tool, then it is easy.

I ended up buying a nice used Snap On Set just for changing the wheel bearings.

Change the brakes at the same it will drive like new truck.

i would crack the brake bleeder and see if there is any residual pressure sometimes a brake hose can swell on the inside and act like a check valve.   also sometimes the the piston on the caliper stick and crack from heat and dont retract

Definitely the hub...I ordered 2 new ones. I will be giving it a shot to install them this coming weekend. Thanks for all the advice I appreciate it.

One thing I did notice is when you grab the hub and move it around the axel shaft thru the spindle moves around also...I think that is not good. Can someone confirm that for me  :classic_mellow:
