This was meant to be a small project, turns out I should have planned for a full build!

it's been ongoing for 3 years now. Hadn’t been smogged for 12 years when we got it. Started wrenching, normal stuff. Almost every electrical connection was redone or reset as it sat for too long. Have chased a lot of gremlins outside this this.

Brand new AX15 transmission, the old Puegot BA/10 that was in it took a Crap and wasn’t worth rebuilding. The particular joy on this part (besides the bill for it) was cutting nearly 1/2” off the output shaft of the trans while also replacing the input of the NP207 transfer case :bangin:

Replaced most of all of the normal things: alternator, batteries (on the third now, hope it will last now that wiring issues have been corrected), power steering pump, radiator, hoses, etc.

also replaced the front dif and axles... went through a brand new set of tires in ~2000 miles, the housing was bent and no adjustment :kick:

The most recent joy was Crapcanning ~80ft of vacuum lines and pulsed air BS along with ~100ft or more of the wiring harness and original ECM, swapping mechanical to electric fuel pump, etc. We just did the Howell TBI conversion.

After chasing more wiring issues finally got it fired up to realize that the old duraspark ignition system wasn’t happy with the new ECM and we had an exhaust leak - warped manifold :icon_cry:

Ripped out the Ford diraspark garbage and converted to HEI, slapped a new exhaust manifold on, and set the mechanical timing. HOLEEE  SH!T, this thing runs like a scalded dog! ...connect the vacuum advance and she’s spitting, sputtering and backfiring :icon_bigcry:

I’ve gotta figure out the vacuum advance and now it sounds like the water pump may be going, the transfer case is leaking and a few other seals to replace, then finally this thing may get back on the road.

here’s some pics, more to follow

That’s quite the undertaking. Emissions are a lot of work.  Nice work!

Labor of love.  Keep chipping away and get it running.
