One of my neighbors is selling this truck.  He is the original owner.  It's clean, clean, clean....

Is there anything to know about the 4.8L motor in this truck?  It has 105k and its only had batteries, tires and O2 sensors put in it in its life.

i have a 2003 tahoe with 4.8, 2wd, gets 18mpg religiously. at 105 you should be good for a while. Normally lose trans at 150k and up.

mines had water pump, hoses, belts, knock sensors, rear axle bearings, bought it brand new. prob one of the best vehicles i have ever had.

im at 170k now, did trans at 155k and forgot the cluster went out, 200.00 at dr. speedometer and good to go!

05/06 some had “piston slap” issues when cold other than that, best most reliable vehicles ever made.

I had an 01 1500 with a 5.3 i put 85k trouble free miles on, the current owner is a friend, its at 270k only ever had water pump, fuel pump tires and 3 wheel bearings replaced (33” tires 4.56 gears)

i still have a 02 tahoe my sister bought new she replaced the fuel pump.i bought it at 180k miles. i replaced the motor at 260 due to a knock sensor (ended up being a cam lobe), its at 305k now original tranny and i’d drive it to new york tonight if i had to. Its stupid reliable. Its basically a back up vehicle for us but still a pleasure to drive. They are very easy to work on and parts are easy to find and cheap.

My first truck was a '00 Silverado standard cab, 2wd.  4.8.  What a great truck.  Never had any repairs.  Rear end went out around 160k? miles.  Sold it to a friend as I needed a larger truck for my family.

No issues towing a flatbed with quads and gear.  I did have 4:10 gears put in.

I do think this I'd a good deal, but not something I need or want.

If you get lifter tick, don’t ignore it. Otherwise, keep the oil fresh and they’re super stout.

Putting a 5.3 in my Jeep. Here’s the tear down after 200k miles:

Nice little article there. 👍

I have three LS motors with over 200,000 and I can tell you the oil pump and oil pump o-ring are always a problem. I put the melling high volume /high pressure pump in and it has fixed low pressure readings and a small tick on one truck. Make sure you install the correct o-ring and don't pinch it. I bought one work truck and the guy already had it warmed up and in my first cold start in the morning it sounded like it was going to blow up. Put the oil pump in and truck has been like a sewing machine ever since. 45 PSI at idle.  On one truck I didn't like the oil pressure readings and have been using 5W-40 with no ill effects after about 7,500 MI. About 28 PSI at idle and 55 PSI at 4,000 RPM.

My original oil pressure readings were said to be normal but it was driving my OCD brain crazy. 10 psi per 1000 RPM has always been my benchmark.

Have a funny feeling you already know these things just thought I would throw it out there in case you didn't know.

Probably one of the most reliable rigs you could buy. 06 didn’t seem to suffer the cluster issues as often as the 03/04 models did. You may not need it but if you could get it for the right price, would suggest it.

If doing the pump, highly recommend the cam plate seal and timing chain set “while you’re in there”. Only a couple of extra bolts. Cam plate seal is a cause for loss of internal oil pressure as well.

01 Silverado 4.8 @ 266k miles, original motor & trans. It’s  my daily driver. With this many miles I don’t chance towing over the I-8 grade as it’s not worth it. I figure at 300K I will pull the engine and rebuild it and do the same with the trans. Then I’ll drive & tow it like it’s brand new. Some say it’s not worth it, but what’s new cost? $50-$60K?
