So it is time to service my Gear-one mid-boards and I noticed that they have a slight play in them. Will this clear up once I clean them up, re-grease them and reassemble or is the play due to the bearings going bad? Bolts are all tight currently.

Bearings are bad.

I've seen this on 3 other cars in the past year.
Once Parker replaced bearings and rebuilt, as good as new.

@parker@gearone would be the best to answer. But if there is more play than before, it's worth taking a look.
Let's see what Parker says.
Do you have pictures of your hubs?

Here they are the last time I had them apart, not sure it helps any. The boot flange and bearing carrier were new as I had switched out the aluminum pieces for steel and all new bearings. One thing I noticed was that was 6 years ago so that may explain the play....

Odds are your bearings are starting to go. Definitely something you want to catch sooner than later—if the hubs are run loose, the bearings can start chewing up the hard parts inside and really tear things up.

We offer in-house rebuilds if you want to go that route, or feel free to email me and I can help walk you through it. I can also take a look at pics and help you inspect everything as best as possible.

Kind of hard to explain but the cvs balls can create a dent on the two surfaces that the main cv sets against so when you assemble if it doesn’t set flush you have play. I take a flapper wheel and make sure the are smooth and flat
