How often should spark plugs be replaced? and what is a sign that it is time to replace?

Some friends w/ very high HP LS motors / race gas etc seem to have replace plugs more often or every season. New to me car is twin turbo on 110 race gas and just wondering how often I should be replacing plugs.

quite often.

seen many turbo cars show up to my dyno for poor performance. a new set of plugs cures many of them.

plugs dont last on turbo motors, ESPECIALLY the iridium type. these plugs live in a much richer and higher temp environment, and the longevity suffers. i never run iridium on turbo motors.

for the casual duner, once a season is fine.

if you find you need plugs more often, look at your wires (replace) as their quality breaks down with heat, and verify you aren't running too cold of a plug.

Not exactly the same thing.....but I had a T.bird w.a Turbo 2.3....22K is what they.d last.

Your motor will miss.

Lots of stress on a plug when under boost.

$20 once a year is cheap...run a copper plug

Huh. I campaigned a touring car in a power:weight class. Annual reverifications, plus random checks for podiums. Car always made about the same power (within 2-3whp). Ran mixed VP110/91 in that car.

Replaced the plugs when the motor went (fuel error on our part resulted in massive detonation, whoops). Probably did 5 seasons on them with multiple enduros. Always OE NGK plugs (copper alternative) gapped to 0.025" from the dealer.

Buggy has had a turbo motor for 16 seasons and finally rod-knocked right before the start of this season. Spiked with race gas every tank. It's on it's second set of plugs. Nothing casual about how that thing was driven. 🤷‍♂️

Check the gaps every now and again if something seems off. Otherwise, if the tune is good, they should last a long ass time.
