Alumicraft.. what’s the story and the kinds?

Have only been a passenger in the alumicrafts. A good friend owns 3 of them and we dune together all the time so I know what they are capable of. He has the least amount of issues out in the dunes, almost non-existent. The one thing I do not know if they do well is slide, as that is more of a driving style. I like to slide, but not so much that I would only limit myself to a funco.

I feel like my car slides great even without the use of the cutting brakes for a big heavier car. If i chop the throttle the second I initiate a turn, the rear will swing around on its own pretty well if I'm moving fast enough. I probably do run higher pressure that most in the rear as I usually set them to ~23 psi in the morning. Three cars in our group have had rear sway bars added, two of them being 2 seaters like mine, and they all say my car feels looks & feels like it has one. That said, I know its not a Funco....

Would be interested to hear your buddies feedback on the newer center mounted arms vs. the older style for duning and if there is any noticeable difference. I'd imaging it has to be a smoother ride in the big bumps, but curious if he can feel any difference in the way the car handles when he is ripping through the bowls and making transitions?

he still has minimal seat time in the new car, but said surprisingly not that big of a difference. I'm sure he'll get a more honest take on it this season. The white car soaked up all the big hits very well, and he wasn't afraid to launch the car.

Safe to say we like our alumicrafts. I think we have around 9 of them in our group now. I think the term "dual sport" is used entirely too frequently, but damn can these cars do everything exceptionally well. I've been able to drive early 00 alumicrafts, and brand new race car alumicrafts, they are all incredibly fun to drive in their own respects. I haven't personally driven a funco, but i've ridden in a few. The way they slide is awesome, but to me personally it feels almost unpredictable. My car slides pretty well for a 3200lb prerunner with 8" wide wheels. Not like a funco, but it will drive through 5ft whoops, and tear the dunes up with the best of them, and is very predictable. Cooley's attention to detail was/is incredible. My 20 year old girl still does damn well.

Like @Reece Pettersen mentioned, if anyone wants to see what all vintages of alumicrafts can do, just swing by our camp with a helmet.
