With the nearly non existent inventory of used gen 6 funco’s on the market got me thinking about conversions. If you started with a gen 5 four seater, what would you figure it with cost to have it converted to a gen 6?

I’m assuming you mean changing the roof. That part is easy & Jason at Next Level can knock it out. You can touch up the paint and be on your way with a new look.

For a real “conversion” it’s going to get expensive fast. You are going to tear down the car. Change the roof line, update components like shocks, hubs, steering rack the price starts to climb. A full sheet metal body can run $25k. Sand blast and re-powder coat $5000. Re-wire the car $5000, re-plumb the car $3500, seats? Interior? Windshield?

It gets expensive really really fast. The re-do I’m selling for $140k cost me over $180k including the car purchase. Granted everything on my car is brand new.

Based on my experience I wouldn’t do it again.

X2 @Pennywise

I've got well enough into my car to have bought a new gen 6 and then some.

There are many levels of cars pushing into the gen 6 look and components.

Gotta decide how far you want to push the cash envelope before you cut the first tube.

Happy to follow up with any questions you have.

Beside the appearance what’s is the most notable difference between the gen 5 and gen 6? As far as as performance goes? I was at the show yesterday and saw the g52 roller chassis starting at 105k. There is a nice gen 5 on the market with a fresh lsx 454 and s5d for the same price.

That should sell pretty quick. Nice package!

My buddy is selling his Gen 6 if you are interested. Everything was gone through this off season at Funco.

Buy it and drive it, I like the Gen 5 cars.

I think they are pretty much the same 5-6 gen mid rail down

If you are going to do a full blown retro, why not buy a Gen 4?

still think I had the most fun in my subi powered gen 4. GTF is just over the top. dare to say too much power for dunning. Although you can make up some ground very quickly with 1100hp

I did a Gen 4 to Gen 5/6 hybrid kinda... I didnt want to stretch the chassis to move the fuel tank like the Gen 6. Like others have said, price can get out of hand super fast if your not diligent on your budget and stick to it. My renovation got out of hand early on and just got financially worse as it went on.
I wouldnt do it again, I would buy a used Gen 5 or 6, pickup that Gen 5 and drive it till the wheels fall off.

My buddy Nico had the Arrogant Bastard Funco Gen 4 (Subi) back in the day... built it after he sold a house. His Mom now has the Cheetah print Gen 4. He took Greengo and I on a ride from Wash 10 to Olds and it was THE MOST FUN I've ever had in a Sand Car (I've been in DuneFlyer's Allstar and a few others). I can't imagine any car duning better than that setup. I'm 100% sure that's why Greengo is chasing this Funco carrot and its justifiable.

I personally feel a well tuned 450 quad is the best way to run the Dunes but if I were to ever justify owning a Sand Car, it would likely be a Funco Gen 4.
