IDK How You People Do It

when i drove from okc to mesa to get my shocks done by schmitty, I was simply amazed at the landscape in arizona. from the time i got off 40 I was impressed when driving thru some of those small towns, i thought man i'd like it here. I was by myself and really had alot of time to take in the views. wish i had more time to spend there, it was a turn and burn trip.
Yeah but….phoenix metro👎

Born in HB in 1968, Moved to Trabuco Canyon till 1975, then lived in San Clemente till 88. Then moved to Big Bear for 18 years. It was paradise up there as I searched for my childhood Trabuco experience. Had a great up bringing in these towns.

However in the last 15 years We have been disgusted by what So-Cal has turned into. We often do road trips to Utah, Oregon, Washington and find like what has been stated here, the roads, the traffic, people's demeanor are just so much better.

We currently live in the HD and it is THE WORST! Just try to drive 30 min to Lowes on a Saturday and you are a moving target for tweaked, ganged, mobbed-up, at risk life styled people.

Our only saving grace is that we purchased 4 acres 600ft above the desert floor on the back side of Big Bear back in 2019 and built a pool. We can SXS or Dirt bike right out our driveway. We are technically in Apple Valley. We are 2 miles in on a nasty dirt road but when we get behind our automatic gate it is heaven. The dirt roads filters out scum quit nicely.

But with all that said the clock is ticking for us. We recognize that weather is a very very important aspect of where one lives, and So-Cal certainly beats everywhere else. But due to the rise of crappiness within this state there will be a day we split.

I've always thought that little valley that leads up to Silverwood, would be an awesome place to live. 👍🏼

So coming home I did go a different route. I left Glamis and drove to Vegas via Blythe, Needles and into Vegas. It's pretty amazing when you cross the state line into Nevada and the roads become smooth as silk. After Vegas I drove up to Sand Mountain and met @Justdirt there. We had a fun couple of rips around the place. Yes, It's small in terms of area but the hills are huge and steep so it was a nice little test for my new car. I left Sand Mountain in the late afternoon and went to Winnemucca for the night. The final day was into Southeastern Oregon, into Burns, Prineville then the final stretch home over Mt Hood. Going this route adds only 40 miles but 2 hours due to the terrain and stops. Crossing the state line into Oregon and the roads are worse than Nevada for sure but not nearly as bad I-5 through Central Cali. The drive through Nevada is far easier. Yes, it's barren country but I just set the cruise on 65 and put down the miles. I plan to go this route in the future for trips to Glamis or Dumont. All told I did nearly 3,000 miles. But it was well worth it to get my new toy.

Huge shout out to @Justdirt who drove 4 hours each way so I could have someone to dune with at Sand Mountain. Unfortunately he lost the alternator in
S-Cuda and couldn't do our final ride. It was a ton of fun nonetheless.
