When did you first go the Glamis?

Winter 2000. Coaxed into going after watching all the Crusty videos thinking I would die out there. Been hooked ever since.

Late 90’s and then found the old website of this place. Was invited to stay next to some fine folks at 13.5 After a handful of Thanksgiving's, 70 regattas, Slappy Golf tournaments, construction of & subsequent migrations of many to “The Compound” my life took some turns and Glamis was not to be a destination for me any longer. I have some strong feelings and memories of that time. I think a lot of us miss the times that were. I truly appreciated the families that welcomed me into theirs. IMG_1222.jpeg

Growing up in Minnesota, Glamis was only something we saw on videos as a kid, and was nothing but a pipedream. We rode quads to school, work, wherever.
Moved to Phoenix in 2010 on my 21st birthday and went to Glamis in 2014 on a CRF450. Instantly hooked.

Talk about a ember from the way back machine, Hope life is treating you well Josh

First time in 1986 on a Yamaha Warrior in a tent with Spider X tires. The guys who took me out had 250 3 wheels, banshee, and 250R and took me to the big dunes and I hated this place!!!!

So rode the other bikes and saw this would be fun.

Well this lit a fuse on how can I go faster.

And sometime back then saw the spray painted plywood on the side of the road that said glamisdunes.com.

So Tuner 2 stoke 250R on noz, Turner banshee, reverse cylinder banshee, stretched RD 350 banshee on alcohol, quad zilla, kz1000 in quad frame (Sam & ED), kz1000 in golf cart. Got to know Tom Turner very well and after he taught me the basics about fuel burn rates, compressionvs fuel burn, exhaust, and the whole 2 stoke theory, we went crazy of porting and milling and blowing shit up. We should of listened to Tom about the limits. if a little was good, alot would be better!! Use to race stretched RD 350 banshee on alcohol at AVI Resort in the unlimited class.

Never got into VW style rails, but now have a Biffle Pace Z2 ride. Got to know Biffle when he would rent/use a JR 206 from me when he was in Cal for Fontana races and when he would go to Glamis in his Roush alcohol rail.

And dont forget my camp ride, Yamaha 350 Big Wheel.

Still going when possible, but usally in the middle of the week and have always camped in the Washes from back of trucks, cots next to the fire, tents, small camper and now my 33 Attitude (glamping at its finest!) Even slept in the dunes next to a broken ride a couple times.

My buddy killed the top end of his air-cooled 1983 ATC250R with those heavy ass dirt/mud tires in Glamis on a summer run...I told him, he didn't belive me LOL

In January of 1974 I was stationed on the Kitty Hawk and it was docked at North Island in San Diego. I had a few days off
duty so the wife and I jumped on the Harley to go for a ride and see some of Southern California. The idea was to ride highway 78 over Julian, on to Brawley, through the desert to Blythe, down to Yuma and then home. Riding as much of the 2 lane blacktop as possible. The second day into the ride we saw the sand dunes and stopped for a break along Highway 78, the area I know now is the valley at comp hill. There was a few or more of old school buggies and some three wheelers playing on the hill. I told my wife “ that looks like fun but you would be crazy to ruin your equipment in the sand like that”. Be careful what you say smart guy. In 1976 we bought a house in Azusa and it just so happened that the neighbors were going to Glamis regularly. They invited us out for a fun weekend and I was hooked. We started planning on how to buy some three wheelers and enjoying our family in the desert.
I said all that to say 1983 was the first time to gecko campground with a barrowed van pulling a 13’ terry trailer. We had a 50cc Suzuki for our 5 year old son and a 125cc Suzuki for our 7 year old daughter. Over the years we added more three wheelers, quads, sand rails, and now a side by side for me and the Mrs. All the grandsons are older now and riding dirt bikes with their mom on a quad but ready to switch to a dirt bike.
Turned out to be a great place to raise a family and make some great friends. We have been blessed for the experience.

Just call me crazy.

I had to look through my pics to figure this out...

Pismo was my first dune trip with my Blaster. No clue when that was, but it was a Very long time ago!

First trip to G was to see Four Stroke Wars. That was January 2005.

Next trip was was April 2005, for a quad EPO. @Slappy sent me an invite, and there was no way I was going to say no!

I have folders with pics for the 06 Buggy EPO, 06 Girls EPO, 06 GNC EPO, 06 Quad EPO, 07 Quad EPO, 07 Night Ride, 08 GNCC, 08 Quad EPO, 09 Quad EPO, 09 GNC and the 2020 Golf Tournament.

And even though those are the folders I have, I'm pretty sure my very first trip was with @SandTrap on Thanksgiving. That must have been in 05? Wes did deep fried turkey, and it was all I could do to not go back for 2nd's, 3rd's and 4th's. Wes can cook a bird better than Anyone I've ever known! Man that thing was delicious.

Lot's of good times and lot's of good memories. We had some wild azz times out there!
