I have outboard hubs on my car and the stationary boots have a good amount of sand in them after each trip. Does anyone have tricks or tips for keeping sand out of the outer boot?

add a picture of the outer boot. typically there is a sealed bearing that rides the axle. the chewed up srping has since been replaced. but on the summers brothers outboards they had a plastic 2 piece bearing retainer that clamped on to the axle and the boot clamped to the outer race of the sealed bearing.

the summers brothers hubs do not have an inner boot but a agm seal saver instead. after a full season ill have some very light dust behind this boot but no real sand.

Hmmmm. Never had that problem.
But I have what ranman described.
17 years and I have never had sand behind the boot.
ADS Outboard hubs is what I run.

Who makes the ads hubs was it something ADS now purely a shock company made a while back?

Fascinating. I will get a picture of the outer boot this weekend and post it. My boots just float on the axel.

I know a big draw back with outboards a long time ago was water running down the axle into the cv i would imagine thats why jamar came up with the inner boot design

Yes, double boot is standard because of that. Roy at ProAm came up with it. Most things Jmar are just a knock off of ProAm.

ADS stopped making these years ago.
They just do shocks now.
They were bought by Holley last year.

that makes sense. i know they used to machine parts for a few other manufactures like howe and pss i believe. so why not try and build some other stuff. do they still support you if you have any issues?

They had a few hub parts around last year that I picked up. But I don’t think they support the hubs anymore.
