I am buying a box trailer. Curious to see what would be the best hitch lock? Also does anyone use any kind of GPS trackers other than the Apple airtags?

on the hitch locks, look for one that allows you to lock up the chains also. I have a storage and we had one or 2 stolen and they had hitch locks, but the thieves used the chains to tow it off. one guy they caught the hitch lock was still on it, chains were supporting the tongue not being on the ball.

@J Alper is a dealer for gps i believe, or has some good insite on them.

I've had great luck with Air Tags on my stuff. Amazing how well they work, and can be hidden almost anywhere.

Other than that: hitch locks are either crazy expensive, or super easy to defeat. As my buddy just found out with a locked fold-away hitch: they just strap it to the truck, take it to another parking lot, and finish the job there.

If you're storing it on property you own, a ground anchor with security chain would be more secure, and if you put it in a spot where the thief has to back up to get it off after they find out the hard way that it was attached to the anchor, even better. Make it so you back up a little farther than you want, hook up the chain, then pull it forward to hide the chain/anchor.

Other than that: a relay connecting the onboard battery to the trailer brakes as soon as someone hooks up a 7-way would work (parking lights from the 7 way on pin 85 with a switch in-line and hidden inside, 86 to ground, battery to 30, 87 to the brakes) would make life difficult since most trailers are stolen at night, and driving around with brakes locked up or no lights is a sure-fire way to attract police.

If you're in a storage lot, you just need for your trailer to be harder to get then the guy next to you.
Cable around the wheels, a hitch lock and another covering the bottom of the receiver and they will look at the next guy.

I've seen people run their jack up and put a backhoe outrigger lock or something similar on the jack leg so it's too high to hitch up to.

That's pretty slick.

I am not a dealer anymore, really was no money to be made

But about 10 of use FIN Find it now, and Mark at Allen offroad got his universal trailer stolen from a storage lot and he got in back within the hour, and it was a ring of stolen items at the property,

I also have one on my sandcar, and when i am at vendors row even someone leaning on my car will trigger my phone that i have movement,

you can pull up on the app within 3 feet of you item
black box half the size of a phone,

Mount it near the ECM and stick a holley sticker on it and you are good to go,

Good insurance companies don't exist anymore. Endless phone trees, broken promises on timelines, low-ball payouts.

I honestly don't know why I pay these people.

I'm pretty happy with State Farm.

My kids have totaled two of my cars, and I had no issues getting paid. My rates didn't go up, and I wasn't cancelled.

My agent is a great guy who posts on RDP regularly. He's one of us. Off road/boating dude. He's always taken great care of me. I have everything I own insured with him!

But ...

I'm not so sure SF is writing new policies in CA anymore.

You would for sure have to have a spotless driving record and no recent claims.

It's a bitch securing Good insurance in CA.

We got cancelled by State Farm because California doesn't know how to maintain forest land. LOL

My situation is a bit different and unique but this is the extent that I have gone:

I have a 30' Versatube cover over the Attitude. Cable ran through the wheels on the non-visible drivers side as well as a cable from the trailer to the Versatube cover.

Then, I have my 16' Carson flatbed backed up in front of the Attitude and the flatbed is cabled up to the front of the Versatube cover and the wheels also have a cable running through them.

Both trailers also have tongue locks.

My box trailer has an electric jack, I take the fuse out, so the thieves need to bring their own jack and take mine apart or bring the handle and manually use it........most likely not going to happen. Along with that I have a Hitch lock and wheel lock. Also have both Air Tags and Tiles on all toys and trailer. One thing with these, there needs to a phone (with Blue tooth) nearby or they don't work.

Always remember, Thieves are lazy for the most part, thus the reason they are Thieves and not Worker bees.

Correct, but it can be ANY Apple device with Bluetooth nearby to be located.

I put the trak4 gps tracker on my trailer this year. You can set up a geo fence around it and it send you a text and email whenever the trailer leaves or enters the geo fence. Been happy with it so far but have only had it for a few months so no feedback on longevity of the unit.

I agree, but only 67% of the population has an iPhone. And in my experience, you need that phone pretty close by if you have the airtags inside a metal box trailer
