Trailer door cable broke

Like a dumbass I went to put my car away in a hurry and clipped the door cable. Does anyone know what length of trailer door cable? Is it easy to do? I found utube videos and cables and it doesn't look that bad. Do I need to hire a professional? Appreciate the info in advance.

 
do you have 2 cables?

from what i found when i did mine they are all the same size.

mine was pretty damn hard to do, but my buddies was super simple.

  how old a trailer is it?

 
I've done them, not fun. Take it to a repair shop.

 
i have done them but i cheat. just loosen the bolt that hold the drum to the shaft wind the new cable on and connect to the door.   then put a block under the door on the side that getting the new cable and have someone stand on the other side of the door and you tighten the drum bolts. you just need to find out the length of the old one and get one that is close with in a few inches.

i had to take one cable off every time to load the car when you would have someone step on the gate with the block on the other side it would give you a little slack to put it together. the right way is a pain

I've had to repair mine for the same reason. Not fun. But, if you're mechanically capable, once you figure out the dynamics of it...it can be done. At that point, it's just a matter of patients/effort and general safety. Both sides need to have the same amount of tension / slack.

Before you have it fixed, get yourself some extension brackets.  Someone on here posted a picture of them years ago and I took the design and made some.  It lets me slide the cables out on each side 6 inches while loading and then you slide them back into place.  Use them every trip.

Universal does this, I'm just not sure how difficult it is to add to an already built trailer.

Ok I will see if I can get someone to come out and fix it. Just figured I would ask. Not a lightweight door on the stacker. It has 2 cables but still want it replaced.

 
Not hard, have done a couple of Trailers.

 
Just make sure the door is all the way open when you wind it. I built my own trailer so I had to learn the process. You need a couple short rods to fit the holes in the drum to wind the spring. DON~~~

 
Also look at the rod at the top to see if the cables are on one spring or if it is split with two separate springs. DON~~~

Old pictures but you can get the idea.  It's a flat plate screwed to the door.  round tube that works like a gate lock. And round bar that supports the weight and slides into the round tube.  Mine will go out almost 10 inches, but I only go 6.  Hope this helps.
