Been wanting to do this project for a while. After we had the house painted and put up new gutters, I could not install my flag mount!
So... obvious choice is a in ground flagpole set up!
I went with Service First, American made and Veteran Owned, 20' telescoping with (2) flag mounts, solar light and flash cover for the base!
So, the project: I got the concrete, drainage rocks, plastic drain, Flagpole, flags (it came with the American one and I ordered the Back the Blue edition).
Ready to go!
Starting out, I didn't know exactly where my sprinkler lines were going or crossing, etc...so I put an extension on my drill for cutting wood holes and went around in the basic diameter I had marked out. Went down about 14: or so...that worked well, I could go slowly, and it broke up the dirt as I drilled. Then moved into the center portion and then just dug it out.
I kept doing this as I got deeper...I found it to work awesome as I didn't really have to dig hard. The drill bit loosened up everything and actually cut through some roots.
My neighbor lent me his fence post digger, that was awesome!
When all was dug, put some drainage rocks in, set a drain at the bottom, put the PCV sleeve in place and started mixing concrete!
OMG...what was I thinking??? Mixing concrete in a wheelbarrow is no fun at all!
Plus, I have never done it, but luckily my neighbor was over and learned me a thing or 2!
But when all was said and done, I put the pole in the base as the concrete was drying to make sure it was level in 2 directions.
Came out pretty good!
I then wanted to clean up the concrete, so I got some planter border and black rocks to clean it all up!
Done, I love it!
