I'm looking at an '86 Chevy G30 "Bread Truck" or UPS truck kinda of a deal. It looks like it will be big enough to get my Rhino in it and it has a hitch on it.

I don't know how many miles are on it. But, it has a blown trans....which I assume to be a TH400.

I know that they are sorta under-powered
when NA. But, how good of a motor are they? Durable? How long should they last? MPG?

They were less than stellar. At the machine shop we saw lots of them with broken crankshafts. Tend to snap right at the front main bearing. 6.5 s were not much better. Boat anchor material IMHO.

+1 on the LS swap - I did this on an 84 C10, but if you are planning to go this route do some research on motor and or trans mounts for the C30...I've seen them for C10, C20's - but not the "G"30.

I have a 6.5 in a 97 Tahoe - thing is slow as shit, I can't wait to LS swap it someday. I get about 15 MPG, and it has a 4L80 which is nice when I do the LS swap someday.

I tried towing my boat, which is about 5,000lbs, one time - it struggled going up hills and started to get hot...I can only image the 6.2 would be even worse. If you're not climbing any grades, it might be Ok?..that seemed to be what a lot of people state...they are great up until a grade.

Join this facebook group...Iots of good info and 6.2 fan boys who love these engines.

I.m in CO....no hills here.

Between me and Yuma, in Utah are 3 divides w.tall summits/passes. Once I leave St George.....it is like Darlington downhill all the way to Yuma.

Going back, it is pretty much all uphill (except when it isnt).

All that would be rough on a diesel.

I'm looking at an '86 Chevy G30 "Bread Truck" or UPS truck kinda of a deal. Keep looking It looks like it will be big enough to get my Rhino in it and it has a hitch on it. The hitch is for looks it doesn't have the torque to tow anything on today's highway.

I don't know how many miles are on it. Likely far too many But, it has a blown trans....which I assume to be a TH400. A broken 3 speed trans with no OD

I know that they are sorta under-powered
when NA. An understatement But, how good of a motor are they? They aren't Durable? No How long should they last? They should have all been off of the road by now MPG? 7-8
Sorry for the reality check. The 6.5 was a turd and it had a hair drier, the 6.2 is even further down the food chain. I used to replace injection pumps on them under warranty at Chevy. I'd have to run them with the intake manifold removed so I could get to the fuel lines to crack them to see what cylinder was misfiring.
