First trip back in six years, I'm so glad nothing has changed.
We headed out Friday morning at 6am and rolled in by 9am. What a beautiful drive, I forget how much i love road trips into the desert, driving thru the small towns, etc. Thank God Cattle Call was later in the day, haha because we drove thru Brawley. No real stop except top off all the gas cans , quads and truck. I like to enter Glamis, full of fuel.
Rolled onto Gecko to see how it looked, lots of people taking up space, obviously waiting for friends to arrive, we all do it, no issue there. Passed by Pad 5 to see the Vets crew, they were all out on a ride, even saw LRS towing a SXS back to Road Runner Estates, I always say "Hi" (except to MWB). On to the Washes, were my Truck / Tent combo would be better suited.
Picked a spot in Wash 4 on the backside near some bushes and out of the path folks were using to come and go from their camp. It was a nice spot and easy access to Vendors for important stuff like my helmet i left at home LOL - glad Glamis Pit Stop had a 4XL that not only fit my cranium, but looked good too (O'Neill MX). The whole weekend included trips to the Row for Firewood, Battery for a YZF450 and various nuts and bolts that were needed to keep on trucking.
We drove out to Wash 22 because plenty of folks from here were there, everyone was happy to see us and visit's, beers were had. Funny to see people you have known for 20 years, and meet some for the first time. Welcomed, like family.
We did allot of riding, 3 Quads and burned thru (3) 5 gallon cans aside from the quads getting topped off before we arrived. It was playing in the dunes and learning all over again how to climb, crest and enjoy the dunes that burned all the fuel. We kept Sand Hwy to a minimum, only when we had to limp back for the busted handlebar, loose wheels or after crash that we took it. Even when its empty, you get that one guy flying across it that will nail you from the side, glad my son saw him coming a mile away.
Allot of time in the dunes, it was soo smooth back by the Scrapalapa, we really enjoyed that whole area.
It was a great time, just my two sons and I. Allot of good conversations were had at the fire and in-between. Everything I love while in Glamis. They are at the age they want to go on their own, they will....but i still have a few more trips planned before that happens, just cause they are still newbs in my eyes. My eldest kissed the handlebars the last day, he panicked and didn't let off the gas. I kept saying over and over the entire weekend - Going Fast is not hard, Climbing a Hill is not hard, Cresting a Dune is not hard....being ready for what comes on the other side, or at you from another direction and HOW YOU REACT / HANDLE IT...is were experience is needed.
Any fool can twist a throttle, mash the go pedal.
Can't wait to get back.
