Alright all y'all.
Supposed to be a 2004 SU
Not sure of the model on this and question the authenticity of it as well.

First, what is this rear suspension. Upper and lower arm deal?

Second, does this car appear to be a true SU?

Thanks in advance.Screenshot_20251025-173001.pngScreenshot_20251025-172943.png

SU’s had a serial number stamped under the pedal assembly. You can also give Ed a call. But that rear assembly does look different.

It looks like it has SU parts but not an SU frame. The front looks like SU arms with the correct double sheer mounts but the rear is strange. Also, never seen one with the X brace in the rear. Plus the rear cage doesn’t look like it either.

I believe very few of these were made with the V Link suspension in the rear with bypasses. I've seen another for sale earlier this year. Red and silver one. Looks like this one listed on GD

You know, I was thinking I'd seen that before and now with this post it hit me. Those extreme axles....

If it's the car I think it is, it was one of the OG ones. Is there a "bulkhead" in the rear for the shocks?

I stand way corrected. Never seen an SU like this before.

@Deviantduner had an SU with the multi-link rear and bypasses.
This is my old SU ultralight 5link set up with bypasses added by SU many years

I think this orange car was an early early version of the ultralight, if I recall Ed said it is one. There’s many items that don’t look right. But back then SU played around with many different set ups

I am looking for a car to put my subi 6 and s4 in. This orange SU has a bad engine and is S4 already. The rear suspension has me saying pass on this one.

All early Larry Rosevear cars were 5 link. They didn't move to Trailing Arms until the company was sold to Cathy Begin and her Husband when they made the SU Sandcars Superstore (I was at the Grand Opening around 2006).

The car posted is likely a Suspensions Unlimited.

Thays not correct, Larry made trailing arm cars before he sold it to John. The car is a V-link car, they didn't make very many (probably a good reason for that).

^^^ If I remember correctly, the 5 link was designed before everyone was running V8's. When engine packages got bigger and stronger, John Begin went to the Trailing arm design.

95- 98% of his cars were 5 link, with a few transitioning before the sale.

My bad. Send out the Posse.

We were able to get @Deviantduner's car to take whoops with off the shelf valving and adjustments. It was a compromise for chop, but that's more a function of the valve stack than it was the suspension geometry. Car seemed to handle really well through the bowls though. I wouldn't rule out the 5-link as there are some advantages (mainly: less need for a roll bar to keep it from feeling sloppy). You do lose a little travel, but Tim had big power and it didn't complain about it.
