I'm not sure why he couldn't just investigate them and arrest them on the down low. He's throwing a grenade on a brush fire..

I don’t think that’s required. To me, they just have to be a group that works together to create violence and mayhem for strictly/primarily political reasons. Which they are.
 
Since the link is to CNN, it's easy to see the "Anti Trump bias"
that is the standard at CNN.
It wasn’t immediately clear what mechanism Trump would use to make the designation, and Antifa lacks centralized structure or defined leadership, making it unclear who or what precisely would be targeted.

Only 8 yrs too late. They have no legitimate purpose other than creating kaos...... I'm glad the NSA guys got all their chats and calls.... should be interesting. Once USAID was taken down the money dried up to all these leftists.....
