Headed out Friday from Kingman. Maps always shows 3 routes. The one through Havasu is usually really close in time as the one through the Needles hook but right now, assuming for traffic, shows 45 min longer.
I've done the Needles twice now and my biggest issue is lack of gas stations.
Is traffic through Havasu that bad? I know I'll need gas somewhere and Blythe and Palo Verde gas was really expensive.
Might take a couple cans of diesel regardless.

Do you have to go through Bullhead City/Laughlin if you want to bring your own firewood? Not sure how big of nazis the AG checkpoints on 40 in needles or 10 in Blythe are about that.

If you stay on the AZ side to the 10 there will be a checkpoint across the river going into CA.

Going through havasu youll have stop lights. Id rather deal with that and have shit to look at then the boring drive to needles/40. Plus if you forget/need anything its all in havasu.

The LH side takes quite a bit longer....You crawl through all the stop lights, then it is windy south of there....down near the dam dam : )

I betcha that it is faster to go through Salome and Wenden than Havasu. It has been my experience that a GPS underestimates the time that stop-lights take. But, this way is longer.

You can get gas on I-40 and AZ-95. It is a Loves. Then, again cross the river on I-10 to Ehrenburg...I think that it is about 10 miles RT. It is a Loves....I think This is assuming that you are gonna take CA-78 from Blythe.

Heck, I might cross the river back over to Parker, to Quartzsite then back into CA. CA-78 is a crappy road north and south of Blythe

I go to Buttercup, thru Yuma, and the US 95 is much better than CA78 and I can buy Blue-Gas at Maverik in Yuma. I come south from Vegas on US95 to Vidal Jct. over to Parker, south on AZ-95 to Quartzsite, US95 to Yuma....it is pretty flat and straight.

It doesn't really pertain to you, but Ogilby Road is pretty rough, so I don't travel it and the 78 is windy, hilly and has a bunch of stp-signs. As soon as you get up to speed, there is another stop-sign._

I think that there is a problem w/that map. The 4.13 route does not appear to go into Quartzsite from the North. It looks like, from Parker, it goes over towards Vicksburg/Brenda?, then south to I-10, then towards Quartzsite, from the East.....I think.

If you take the route in dark blue, past the tracks in Vidal Jct. There is a cutoff across the river to the AZ side. Smiths Crossing or some shit.
That comes right out at the Loves truck stop at I 10, Ehrenberg. Its a much better drive on that side to the 10, then the CA side if you get stuck behind a truck.
Its about 4 miles out of the way, but much quicker.

Gas up there, then head to Blythe, over to G. USDA checkpoint when you cross the River before Blythe.

From havasu through Parker will be slow but plenty of fuel to buy. Crossing over the 40 into needles will be 2 lane hwy but last cheap fuel will be in topock.

The 93 may not be bad but it will back track. As for firewood I haven’t had an issue at the Blythe checkpoint just cover it with a tarp and put near front of the bed. Or in toyhauler just don’t leave it open for them to see.
