Sequential shifter - does it need the limit stops?

The PBS and early Mendeola Gen 1 shift mechanisms DO NOT have any internal stops. It would be recommended to use a shifter with stops. If you do replace the entire shifter, it will also correct the cable throw so you do not have to "loop" the cable at the trans, which adds quite a bit of drag...

    Internal CV joints

He has been making them for his front diffs for a few years. Problem is that there is no "differential" anymore, and they don't turn for shit. Works ok for rock bouncing I guess.

    S4 breather

So, That vent location never changed from Gen 2 to Gen 3. It might have been different on the super early Gen 1 housings that said "Mendeola/PBS" on them, it's been awhile since I've seen one. But I remember them being in the same location. I am wondering if the car builder moved the vent line...

    WTF? Tornado?

Got woken up by all of the emergency alerts at 1:30 AM when I was still in Ventura a few years back with tornado alerts. I've never seen harder rain come down in my life, even through many Arizona monsoon's.

    The Transaxle Thread

A bit of confusion in your questions: 1. A "3-Rib" is a 1969-1971 002 bus trans. This has the same size gears as a Type 1 Beetle trans with larger R&P. 2. A "5-Rib" is a 1972-1975 002 bus trans. Same gears, but splined 3-4 hub and stronger case. 3. A "6-Rib" is a 1975-1983.5" 091 bus trans...

    PBS Is Done

Closed up in 2020. Transmission and windmill gearbox sales tanked. At least you can convert a PBS S4/S5 to a Weddle S4/S5...wait, different PBS. Carry on.

    s4 upgrades

Watch my Instagram video for a detailed explanation and showing the differences between Gen 1, 2, and 3. Bottom line is the Gen 3 shifts faster, whether you notice it or not. It really helps save wear and tear on the shift dogs, saving you money when it comes time for service.

    The Transaxle Thread

You can this with an Albins and VW bell housing. That's how Jimco used to build all of their Class 1 cars. But then you're limited to small diameter clutch packages.

Sadev makes everything in house other than bearings, seals, and some other common goods. They recently went on a buying spree in Europe and bought up a bunch of their suppliers so they own everything they need to produce their product. Fortin has typically used Hewland to make their gears, but...

    The Transaxle Thread

Starting at $50k. It's a very nice trans, Sadev know's how to make a good gearbox, and I have no doubts that they will work well, but they don't know the market. I am not sold on the Sadev units for the long term. Albins and Fortin already have a very nice gearbox in the $40k-$50k range for...

    The Transaxle Thread

I haven't seen one in person, they were in design phase while I was still at Weddle, but I did see internals in some pictures from Sand Show. Wider 1st-4th gears, big power cars were putting some abuse on 3rd and 4th gears. 2nd gear splined onto mainshaft, rather than machined onto shaft with...

I think the needle bearings are ok to use (I am sure there are a few that would dis-agree with that), but certainly not as good as the sealed bearing. Just make sure the bearing is well greased and the seal is installed to the outside of the crank so it seals the bearing.

    Clutch pedal stop adjustment

There are a lot of factors that go into how far each clutch pedal will need to travel to dis-engage the clutch. Length of pedal Master cylinder bore size Slave cylinder External arm length at bell housing How much soft/flex line is used Since every car is typically built with a a variation of...

    Speed UTV

As someone who has worked on the same bench with him, I fully disagree with this statement. Maybe that says something about my mechanical knowledge. Think what you will. I don't agree with everything he thinks/does, but he has some really good idea's. I would say his only downfall is not...
